What’s Hot, What’s Not and Who Wants a Tea Towel?

NOTS
(longstanding Myrtleandeunice preference for bad news first – so as to end on high)

1. Falling off the blogosphere lately.

2. Possibility of Santa no-show. Haven’t tackled Christmas list. Christmas list, scrawled on back of envelope, not sighted for three days.

3. Running out of advent ideas. None of the envelopes have anything in them ahead of time. Three minutes prior to opening, some festive-ish activity-lette is concocted and we all come over Christmassy. Quite a pace to keep for an entire countdown.

HOTS
• Arriving at realisation that my brain needs a rest PRIOR to inevitable meltdown. Far better to take a January bloggy break and launch a year with energy and clarity, rather than continue this ongoing flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants malarkey all the way into 2010.

• The Afternoon Play on BBC Radio 4. A constant companion while working and current source of sanity. I wish Australian radio did drama as well as the Poms.

• Ability to switch Advent idea at a moment’s notice, thus catering for tired kids, unimaginative parents and a tray full of fundraiser mangoes (‘eat one whole mango each!’ Hooray!)

The Giveaway: Tea Towel Anyone?
I may not have a Christmas list happening, but I have been toying with some of that printing stuff. In festive giveaway style, five tea towels are up for grabs. I’m happy to ship internationally and no need to be a follower or whatnot. Just include which tea towel you would prefer. Printed on 100% linen with a dry sense of humour. I’ll draw the five winners midday Sunday Melbourne time...

Option 1
Wash the dishes
Dry the dishes
Turn the dishes over
(the line that requires a handstand)

Option 2
All washed up and hung out to dry
(a statement which is all about the tea towel and not, under any circumstances, to be taken personally)

Loobylu is the hostess with the mostest for Hot and Nots but it’s quite possible that every other Hot and Not-er is busy doing something constructive – like dealing with the last items on that list...

I love your advent calendar! And I love the blankness of it all. Maybe in future years you can fill only randomly and still have "blank" ones or maybe the blanks are family members names and they get to pick an activity on the spur of the moment. We did a Halloween countdown but my daughter didn't want the candy, only the ghosty stickers :)

If I could choose a tea towel it would be option 1. I love being upside down as I am so frequently that way (at least I prefer it to be washed up;) )

I love love love your tea towels, (I have a thing for tea towels)
My favourite would be Option 2
All washed up and hung out to dry.

I think all us mum's feel the burn out creeping in this time of year. With pressie shopping, xmas treat baking , work and family time there's just not enough hours in the day.
Looking forward to catching up in the new year.

I love all your tea towels - they are whitty!
What's not hot for me is this fly that is buzzing around.... whats hot would be a can of flyspray.

Duyvken said...

I love teatowel option #1. I loved playing that game with my sisters and trying (not very subtly) to pull one anothers arms out of their sockets :-)

I am a huge fan of tea towel option #1. So crisp, clean and witty. Thanks for sharing! Best of luck with your holiday preparations!

Those tea towels are so hot right now, they are the new black! You know I love them both.

Hope you find true rest over Christmas. Your workload seems so heavy and your production so prolific and so beautiful, a meltdown is to be avoided at all costs!

Merry Christmas to you!

I love your tea towels. They deserve a HOT all of their own :)

I like option 1!

Will miss you on your bloggy break but will look forward to the refreshed you in 2010.

What is it about the backs of envelopes for list making? My list (on said envelope) sits atop my bedside table. Safely out of sight of the child who can read (not!). Super secretive, I am.

I like #1, but would be happy with either.

Hope you find your envelope!

Turn the dishes over- complete with head stand!

I thought this was a fabulous design and would pay money for it! It is much nicer than our 50c Ikea tea towels.

I hope that list shows up but erm... plenty of time?

I love "wash the dishes dry the dishes"! :)

Option 2 all the way for me.

Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year...enjoy the bloggy break. It's all about recharging the batteries.

And before you say it, yes...I am suppossed to be off the mac but hey...how could I resist a tea towel giveaway?

xxx See you on the other side xxx

Hung out to dry...... cos that is what Summer does to me!

The handstand one for me.
Love your work!!
Try to take a break!!!

Hope you find tge lust - maybe the elves have taken it together do the shopping for you?

I love both the teatowels but think option 1 is my favourite

hope you get a good break and come back refreshed and ready to go

sandra said...

I would just lurve No 1. Love that rhyme.

Liz said...

Love option one.

Good luck with finding your Christmas list!

Little Ted Canvas said...

I can relate - so much to do & soooo little time! But hang in there, sister we'll make it to the other side! I'd love to be a part of your tea towel giveaway, love them both, but perhaps the 1st one for me...Merry Christmas!

Mary said...

Maybe your list has runaway with my list and they are currently relaxing on a beach somewhere far away along with the lid to my saucepan. I'm having similar Christmas issues here. (another for the headstanding option)

Mama Mogantosh said...

I think January is a good month to take off all 'requirements.' I love that first tea-towel - if I win, I'll frame and hang it in my kitchen. It's a lovely piece of art - I remember when you made it- and I think you've definetely got skillz. Happy Xmas.

Cosy said...

I'm running away from home instead of doing Christmas! Well, nearly. Running away with Mr J to melbourne for a just-us Christmas. I'd highly recommend it!

I'd love to win either teatowel but if I had to choose, 'turn the dishes over' would be fantastic!

Nadine said...

Those tea towels are great!!
I really like the wash the dishes one :)

Sue said...

Woohoo, you know I'd love a tea towel from your collection. I'd love either but just maybe the "turn" one appeals to me most.

A Peppermint Penguin said...

For some reason I can relate to the All Washed Up! I've got a darn cheek entering - I never actually dry the dishes :$ But your tea towels are so witty I just have to!

Well you'll be missed on a bloggy break, but I don't think blogging should be something you feel hassled about. It should be something/somewhere you look forward to doing/being. So take your time and pop back when you feel like it!

re xmas and all things pressure. Ugh. I suppose you can't avoid it altogether, what with the little people and all, but people and time together are more important than all the musts and havetos that so many get so stressed about. See if you can take 5 minutes to write yourself a new list with less on it than the old one!

Cheers, from an entirely christmas free zone (not boasting, just grateful),
AJ

Umatji said...

oh I wouldn't mind - which tea towel would depend on the mood - all washed up tonight and wash the dishes tomorrow with luck! I am with you - burn out not only threatens - I feel positively singed...
Hang in there...

ahhh, January off... me too!! can't wait!

Option #2 for me; I usually refer to 'it' as 'clapped out', but 'all washed up' probably cuts it too :D

Mel said...

Well you just know I luuuurve those tea towels! It's a close call but option one is in by a nose for me.

Oh and on the advent thing - I am doing the EXACT same thing! Scribbling out quick little messages that often also relate to something we have to do anyway i.e "Make cookies for the preschool christmas party - yay!" It can be our guilty little parenting secret ;)

Kate said...

Your tea toels are great! I love them bith but the first one suits our crazy headstandy house right now.

Searching for Sporadic Surprises said...

Oh Dear - It's that time of the year again isn't it! I'm having issues with my advent calendar too - some pockets are too small to fit the things I've bought (I do odd days and B does even so we both get equal surprises except that I also get "the big one" on Christmas day - of course! ha ha)

I LOVE #1 teatowel for the same reasons as per my comment on your Nov 30 post...

Good luck with the Christmas Present Shopping!

Cheers

Oh what would the world be without Radio Four? It is the soundtrack of my life. If you can track it down online and you are looking for a giggle I can thoroughly recommend (most) of the programmes in the 6:30pm comedy slot.

I am guessing your humour bone gets regular exercise given the first teatowel - I laughed outloud when I read it in the first picture.

Leonie Guld said...

Awww. I love them BOTH!!! Count me in!!

Bianca said...

I did a bunch of advent activities in advanced - based on a combination of things I knew we'd be doing (having a christmas party, make decorations etc) and things that were easy when I can't be bothered. Choose what we eat for dinner, listen to Christmas songs, watch a Christmas movie, eat pizza for dinner. I put a new activity in each night so I can do whatever suits our plans - or lack thereof - the next day.

Wow, that was a ramble. Now, how bout Turn the Dishes over? That'd be great in my little kitchen.

Tas said...

Now if I were a nasty person, at this point I would laugh condescendingly and say that I finished Santa's shopping (always like to help the big guy out) at 10:37am this morning. And if I didn't have to buy on behalf of 3 kidlets for daddy, then it would have been nearly 3 weeks ago. But I am actually rather nice really so I say- chin up, wow, mangoes would be a great Advent calendar score and relax-there is heaps of time to find, revise, laser print, laminate then shop for Santa's list. Heaps! Well, a bit anyway!

Tas said...

PS I adore your "turn the dishes over" print...just in case I won!

We love a good headstand around here! And tell me WHO can resist 100% cotton?? WHO??
Love them.
Don't worry - I think 99% of all mamas have lost the plot at this time of the year. My pot boiled over lastnight and I'm still trying to "mop up" my head!
Merry Christmas.
And when all else fails - a nip of Baileys goes a long way!

Hi there Missie, now what's all this I hear about giveaways??? Could you count me in for the first one? I have a really strong feeling that I am on a winner here..the last thing I won was back in 1976 and it was a herb rack that I won at a raffle at the local kinder. Can you imagine my excitement? I'm still getting over it xo ps it's a mental time of year, no?

Dani said...

There is nothing I love more then doing head stands whilst washing the dishes! I would Pick no 1 to start my tea towel collection. Theres some great ones around at the moment.

bubbachenille said...

We used to sing option one when we were kids, If I win thats the one I'd chose! Thanks for the giveaway and Merry Christmas.

kitty said...

Ha ha. We used to sing that song too. We'd hold hands & swing back & forth & on the last line we'd swing around under our arms so our backs were facing. My sister stopped playing with me after a while, as I have very long arms & she'd get thrown about a bit in the excitement of it all. She always used to tell me I was stretching her. The tea towel is fantastic.

Lady Bug Cat said...

I love them both, but first preference is the handstand one, as my brain might benefit from some more blood in it, or maybe I just need more sleep?
Have a lovely bloggy break, I will miss your posts.

Bea said...

I love option 1. I'm sorry about your Christmas list. I hope you can find it soon.

CurlyPops said...

Sheesh! Where am I gonna get my chuckles from if you take the entire month of January off?
As far as tea towels are concerned, I think I fit the category of 'all washed up and hung out to dry' quite perfectly!

Nikki said...

Our family would happily have the mango advent calendar activity every day for the whole of advent....

I'd love either of ther teatowels - althought the sing-song-wash-the-dishes one is slightly ahead of the pack.

Cass said...

I woudl love either of those tea towels, if I'm lucky enough to win

nikkishell said...

I LOVE your teatowels!!
Santa may not arrive here either, got to get a move on with that list. I just keep forgetting it's Christmas!

I like the both - but I'll go with #2!

Karen said...

Ok so the Santa no-show could be a bit of a problem... maybe when you find the list pop it in one of the past advent pockets!
Love to be in the draw for a swish dish dryer (which I will likely never use it for!), the first would be my preference though I like them both.

Katie B. said...

Aw, thanks! I'd have to go with option 1.

All of the countdown to Christmas business is getting to me! I know how many days are left!!

Sally said...

Great tea towels. Loving them both very much and appreciating the dry sense of humour even more :)

Please throw me in the draw for the all washed up (and hung out to dry) tea towel - one can only dream that we'd ever be so organised!

Must admit to adapting advent calendar for Button Central this year. I think a January break is a smashing idea and well deserved. I just couldn't manage the advent calendar this year...when we finally pulled out the decorations there were still activities from last year which the boys got excited about (thankfully the one about making a mud mess had disappeared)...I promised a proper one next year.

I too have just discovered my love for tea towels - so practically everyone is getting one this year..I love option 1 - as I have that little ditty going over and over in my head. So clever!

Hope you find some quiet moments over Christmas

I'd be more than happy to stand on my head for tea towel #1!! And probably throw in a few cartwheels too.. to have one of your creations in my home - I would actually be smiling while doing the washing up! (or rather my hubby would seeing as he is chief washer-uperer). I must get into this commenting bizzo more (I never do it), your blog is the first I go to every morning, a constant inspiration - for life, not just craft. Merry (albeit busy, tiring and last-minute shopped) Christmas!

Tea towels are FAB Tania, love the upside down typography on turn the dishes over.

I'm still not through my list but I find in times of Xmas crisis that the internet is my friend. I may end up paying a bit extra for postage but I'd rather a coffee, long list and mouse action than a feral shopping centre any day.
