Coming Over All Easter

Entirely uncharacteristically, (because it’s not two in the morning on Easter Sunday), I’ve been bizzy with some preparation of the Easter kind. I usually make a ‘something’. Sometimes it’s for the Easter tree, sometimes a ‘thing’ to hide with chocolatey treats, or sometimes it’s pure freaked-out-Mama therapy in the form of knitted bunnies while I wait for the youngest to emerge from the operating theatre with a finger reattached.

This year it’s Steiner-inspired chicks (which would usually look sort of like this)...

Only then I couldn’t leave well enough alone. Because I like the idea of a perching chick...

a flying-in-the-sky chick...

a food-foraging chick...

a bust-a-moves chick...

a running chick...

an impersonating-dead-fly chick...

...I included some helpful wire chick-legs.

And then I made a THOUSAND (seven) of the critters.

If you’d like to craft up your own easy peasy Steiner-inspired chicks (with or without legs), pop by tomorrow for the pattern and ‘how-to’.

oh oh ooooooo!

I want my own bustamoves chick!

I will not be leaving the computer and shall refresh every ten minutes until I see the pattern appear.

Could a dunsicle like me make one I wonder?

So clever, Tania.

May the fingers of you and yours remain firmly attached this Easter.

To think you have 2 weeks to loose them and have to remake them at 2am on Easter morning

Eeeeek! They're the cutest chicks ever - the flying chick is ingenious (but I think he might need a superhero cape).
I really need to get some wool felt in preparation for a groovy chicken.

I don't mean to be pecky (oh, I make myself laugh) but would steiner chicks have eyes? We don't want to impose any sort of pre-defined characteristic on them, do we?

My verification word today is "fiesoe" (pronounced fee-es-oh). It is a celebratory exclamatory usually used in response to a terrible dad joke.

Okay - so every year I make a Christmas ornament - a series of them for family and close friends - like, eleven - every stinking year. Please note that I do not get one in return, but that's motherhood. Anyway, every year something different, and my tree is, after thirty years, (including the ones from before that) smothered.

Two years ago I decided to do a stained glass bird, using a design I've been using since I was a kid. Plus a tail I stole from somebody else. I cut about thirty of the guys, and was putting them together one day when my husband, with whom I tend to become territorial, such are the power of his opinions, picked up one of the birds and some wire.

"What are you doing with my bird?" I asked, trying not to show teeth.

"Making legs," he said, and then he did it and showed me, and darned if the legs didn't take that sweet little bird and make something fab out of him. Life - character - whimsy. Darn husband. So we made legs for all of them. They're on the blog. Probably under the Christmas or xmas tag. But - legs as the infusion of life? Who knew?
