The Mr and the Zumthor

If your Mr (or brother or father or second male cousin thrice removed), is like my Mr, then this should come as some surprise. I near fell out of my own tree, when Mr Myrtleandeunice became enthusiastically, jump-about-excited, over – wait for it – knitting. Not just a little bit, mind. There were exclamatories. Only an extended welding conversation with like-minded blokes could provoke more exuberance.

Please note: Animated bloke excitement over welding is something I am unlikely to ever ‘get’. I find it best to smile, nod a lot, back away quietly. Meanwhile, I can categorically confirm the large percentage of fellows out there, who do breathless-hyperventilatey and hand-flappy-squealy, over sticking bits of metal together.

All this enthusiasm was prompted by Kirsten’s Zumthor hat pattern. The Mr waited patiently enough for the Shelter yarn to arrive but with those few whiffs of a pending Spring and warmer, non-hat wearing weather, there was barracking with increasing urgency.

It’s a fab pattern and a quick, (though not quick enough for some), knit. I adore the architecturally influenced structure (but the Mr will tell you he loves it more). So giddy with hatted warmth is he, he couldn’t keep still for the modelling bit. It was like photographing The Brady Bunch.

(Which prompted me to realise that I half miss The Brady Bunch).

Zumthor Hat details here.

The father of the recipient of the previously blogged about Adorkable quilt, known to those who love him as Dork, is a keen knitter, he knits on the train to work. He knits for his baby. He was in a knitting circle. He loves it.

in these parts the excitement about new chainsaws/ any farm equipment or anything requiring fuel is met with the kind of merriment you described. I don't get it.

Great Brady bunch style photography and beanie to match!
Hoges (my MR) has always said he can knit...and he even started the other day.
We are both knitting squares to make ourselves a knitted patchwork bedspread...might take us a year at this rate though!

I don't think Mr Boozle will ever bounce about welding OR knitting but put a group of men in lycra on bikes at the foot of a steep hill and point up and he can't stand still for excitement.

Fine with me. It lets me knit (or weld) in peace and quiet.

Yup. I know the blokey hand-flappy-squealy welding conversations.... but I'm yet to experience blokey appreciation of hand-knitted gifts. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through your blog on this front.

Fab hat, BTW.

Knitting influenced males is taking over the world! My hubby was studying my needles as I was knitting, wondering about the mathematical logic behind knitting! Love your model, and the Brady Bunch poses! xx

Lovely hat, and the model looks thrilled.

We had a Brady Brunch festival in the Holstein - went right back to episode 1 of the first series. The kids burnt out after two series though.

Ooh he's looking good! I can't say my man has ever expressed a desire to knit... but then, perhaps it's because I've been knitting him a scarf for about three years now and it's still not ready. He could finish it himself though!! x

Fer said...

Ah yes, the welding excitement.... I know it well. Mind you, he can get just as enthusiastic about some knitted goodness too, thankfully... :-)

The hat is perfect, and suits him to a T.

Hubby's been a bit bored since I started my mobile bookshop, so I suggested a mechanics course to give him some fundamental skills for when we go on our camping trip around Australia.

He is currently at the sewing machine making wheat pillows to sell at a fair next month. Go fig.

Nice work! I don't have a Mr in my life to glaze over at my overly obsessive knitting/crocheting, but I do have a flat-mate who says "wow, you've been crocheting a lot" By which I think she means "wow, you have no life, do you?"
Perhaps hooking a little gift for her to reward her unending patience with the small ends of wool that are slowly taking over the living room carpet, would get her more interested...

nodding over here re welding comments...

LOVE your photos and great handiwork. doing me proud, girl. :)

So he should adore it, he looks ace in it. My man loves welding. He recently spot welded my needle threader for me!

Great beanie! He's done a brilliant job on his first project..are there any more in the pipeline? My mr w had a go at rug hooking shortly after we got married but hasn't shown any interest in the last 3 decades..lol!

I love this hat, what a great style, and he looks very handsome in it too! I'm confused, did he knit this himself? That is one brilliant effort if he did!!..and nice for you to have a knitting companion...

Loopsta said...

Looks fabulous, but like previous posts I was wondering if he was excited about wearing the knitting or doing the knitting?? Is he a genius new knitter??

PS - Has the small received her pressie??

Gina said...

Oh dear, FAR too many comments about your man being a bit hot. I'm too busy swooning over that beanie pattern. Totally looks welded together. Now THAT is hot.

Amanda said...

The beanie is fantastic, maybe I could get the same excitement from my guy. Although as you I will never jump for joy over his history channel or his recent obsession of "learning" about computers. So I probably won't push the issue haha....He is quite a stunner to I will add :)

Super cute beanie and a rather handsome welding enthusiast to boot.
